Soft Hands vs. Firm Grip

My husband tells me to use “soft hands” when driving, so I can make minor adjustments if something happens on the road, instead of overreacting and causing the car to spin or slide.

I think his advice applies to many things in life.

Soft hands remind me to be gentle. To respond thoughtfully to people and unexpected circumstances instead of reacting to them with a firm grip. To take the temperature of the room instead of taking over. To pivot and stay open when things change instead of forcing how I think things should go.

Soft hands reconcile and bring people together instead of stirring up trouble either on the road or at home.

Today I will be humble and respond to others with soft hands remembering Proverbs 15:1, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
