Wildflowers vs. Worry

Have you ever stopped to consider how the wildflowers grow? No one looks after them, but their beauty is unsurpassed. Ranunculus are called “tulips in the woods.” They often grow by bodies of water that provide nourishment and care. Jesus is our living water. He provides everything we need, but do we believe that?

If we believe God, why do we let worry consume us instead of trusting in His Divine promises? Working and planning responsibly is good, but dwelling on all the ways our planning could go wrong, or our relationships could hurt us, isn’t. Luke 12:25, 26 says, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

I’m going to a writing conference in May to help me navigate the book publishing world, and yesterday I crossed the line into worry. Instead of just submitting my best work, I was overly focused on doing things perfectly, which stopped me from getting the job done. My anxiety got in the way of God’s best. As humans, compared to nature, we can underperform when we worry instead of trusting God with the natural order of things.

God equips us for our callings and is with us wherever we go. We don’t need to worry about being perfect. Although I still mess up like I did yesterday, instead of relying on self-stratagems, I trust that God has the best plan for my life. For me, trusting God is the key to an abundant life. Like the wildflowers, I just need to do my part and trust God with the results. Are you a wildflower or a worrier?
